I have been living in the States for 10.5 years. I am the only one in my family here. I moved from Scotland, planning to stay 6 months and then go back home, but I met my now husband and decided to stay to see what would happen between us.
I don't know if I would say living in another country is an adventure or romantic or any other word people usually give it. It's hard and can be lonely at times, even when you have your own little family of wee ones like I do.
My mum and two brothers live in Scotland and I miss them all the time. I miss sitting talking to them face-to-face. But, in saying all that, you learn who you really are as a person really fast. You learn that you're stronger than you thought and that because of it all, you are capable of doing much more.
If I could build a tunnel between here and Scotland, I would.
